The Fonds de Dotation Julia & Georges supports artists through a residency programme at Le Miffre in Roussillon, Provence. Founded by Julia Steuwer and named after her and her husband Georges, the foundation opens the home they made together to artists from around the world — a place where new work, encounters, and collaborations can take shape.

OUR STORY

Le Miffre was Julia Steuwer’s place of retreat. After decades at the highest levels of international fashion, she came to Roussillon for distance from her career and a renewed connection to her own creative life. The long light and slow rhythm of Provence gave her room to think and to make.

She always wanted to share this place with other artists. In planning her legacy, she dedicated her home and estate to something lasting: a setting where artists could explore ideas, pursue their practice, and engage with others. The Julia & Georges Foundation exists to bring that wish to life.

OUR PURPOSE

The Fonds de Dotation Julia & Georges exists to support artistic practice, with a particular focus on residents working together or in dialogue with one another. Through its residency programme, the foundation provides selected artists with the conditions to pursue their projects while experiencing the unique setting of Le Miffre in Roussillon. Supported through property rentals, events, and donations, the foundation helps ensure that this opportunity remains available for years to come.

How the foundation is funded

Thanks to Julia’s endowment, the residency is offered far below its true cost — the foundation carries the greater part of every stay. To sustain the programme, it draws on three sources: seasonal rental of the estate outside residency periods, occasional events, and the support of donors and partners. Any contribution asked of resident groups goes solely toward running costs, never profit, so that Julia’s home stays in service of the artists she wanted to welcome.

Our Founder

Julia Steuwer Favier spent more than three decades at the highest levels of the international fashion industry, holding senior creative positions at some of the world’s most renowned fashion houses, including Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Ted Lapidus, and Balmain.

Throughout her career, she worked across design, product development, and artistic direction, building a reputation for creativity, craftsmanship, and excellence. Her belief in precision, the exchange of ideas, and the careful development of talent continues to shape the foundation today.
