ARTIST RESIDENCY

The Julia & Georges Artist Residency offers a unique retreat for small collaborative groups of artists or other creative practitioners who need time and space to work together. The residency is at »Le Miffre«, a modern villa within a large estate near the village of Roussillon France. »Le Miffre« offers a peaceful environment for social gatherings and project development.

  • ABOUT THE RESIDENCY

The Julia & Georges Artist Residency is dedicated to supporting small groups of artists who are looking for a place where they can work together to plan and develop their next project.

We understand the challenges of finding the right environment to nurture and develop your collaborative projects. Our residency provides a peaceful setting near the picturesque village of Roussillon, France, where your group can escape daily distractions and immerse yourselves in your creative practice.

There is a lot of space for people to spread out, but there are no production facilities, so this residency is best suited to the conceptual development phase of projects, or projects that don’t require equipment beyond what you are able to bring with you. The property, »Le Miffre«, has three bedrooms with double beds, and an additional sofa bed in the library. A maximum of 7 people can apply for a residency together, but more than 4 people will require sharing beds.

With a spacious terrace, a living room, a dining area, a fully equipped kitchen, large tables both inside and out, a huge lawn, and a swimming pool with sunbeds, your group will have everything you need to focus on your projects and enjoy a rejuvenating stay.

  • ABOUT THE AREA

The residency at »Le Miffre« is located in the Luberon Mountains in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of southern France, surrounded by lavender fields, vineyards, and its famous ochre cliffs. »Le Miffre« is a 20 minute walk from the village Roussillon. Roussillon is known for its narrow winding streets, and traditional Provencal architecture. The area is best reached by car — it’s about 50 kilometers (1 hour) from Avignon and 75 kilometers (1 hour 15 minutes) from Aix-en-Provence. The nearest major airport is in Marseille, approximately 90 kilometers away (around 1.5 hours by car). It is also possible to get around by public transport.

  • Practical considerations

Budget
Please note that while the foundation covers accommodation costs, your group will be responsible for travel and food expenses, and the group are expected to be self-sufficient during their stay.

Once accepted, the foundation can provide a letter of support if artists are seeking funding to help support their visit.

Transportation & Food
The visiting groups are responsible for arranging their own food and transport during the residency.

The residency is in a rural area, so the most convenient is to rent a car, however it is also possible to do the residency without a car. By public transport, you can take a train to Avignon and Bus to Pont Julien. From there you will need to take a taxi for about 10 minutes. Buses also go in frequently to the closest village, Roussillon.

Roussillon is a 20 minute walk away. Here you can find a small supermarket, a bakery, a pharmacy and small local shops. For a bigger supermarket you need to drive to the next big town Apt, which is a 20 minute drive away. You can also get to Apt by bus from Roussillon.

Residency Time Frame
Each residency can run for one week up to four weeks, depending on the applicants preference and availability. The length of stay allows your group the time to develop ideas, experiment, and deepen your collaboration. The residency periods are set for when the weather is mild and the village is at its most beautiful.

There are two residency periods per year: Spring and Autumn.

Spring Period:
1 April – 30 May

Autumn Period:
15 September – 15 November
